Giving thanks under the tree of miracles This piece is one of my “Los Muertos” series, honoring the dead. 18” x 16” Materials: I incorporated a vintage handkerchief, which I hand dyed and stenciled the design using antique lace & fabric paint. I used black fine wool from a Victorian mourning shawl for the silhouettes, and I embellished with Victorian mourning buttons, antique steel cut beads, & silver milagros. For the batting and backing I used a wonderful circa mid 1800’s friendship quilt (names signed in pen.) For the frame I wrapped a wood strecher with fabric. Techniques: Hand quilting, hand appliqué, hand dyed fabric, lace stencil with fabric paint, hand stamped letters, fabric wrapped frame. |
