I am not a doll person- but when I saw my first frozen charlotte at the Petticoat
lane market in London (as an ungrateful teenager being “dragged”across Europe
by her parents) even my rebellious heart
melted- I have been collecting ever since.  They were manufactured as early as 1850- and were popular into the
early 20th century.

Ranging from 1” to 4” they were also referred to as penny dolls, bathing dolls, or pudding dolls.

I also use antique china heads in some
of my hangings- sadly the head is all
that survived- the rest being loved to
bits- literally!

When I incorporate these forgotten
“old friends”, who brought joy into many
hearts long ago, into my pieces-
no matter how battered or cracked they
are- their beauty reappears.
